Blue Onion Tobacco Jar / Tea Caddy

This is a really interesting tobacco container / tea or coffee jar / caddy made by Meissen in the late 19th or early 20th century. Usually they are said to be used for tobacco but I have also seen them marked as a tea or coffee container. I guess one can use these pieces for anything you can think off. The piece is decorated with their famous under glaze blue onion design all around with some blue ring trim as well as blue twigs to the shoulder and inner rim. Blue blossom to the center of the lid which is held in place with a brass (?) piece with a screw in the center to tighten it. Not a piece one sees often at all! Great for a collector of blue onion kitchen items. Both pieces are in superb condition with the metal piece and screw being oxidized. The piece is about 4.5 inches tall (the screw sticks up a bit from there) and just under 4 inches in diameter at the bottom. Marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark as well as some blue painter's numer and impressed numbers as shown. Another crossed swords mark to the bottom of the stalk in the design. First choice. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
