Fancy Blotter

This is something you don't see often if at all. You see the inkwell set in this style once in a while but never the blotter! A superb and elegant piece made by Meissen in the late 19th or early 20 th century. The knob part and plate are handpainted with a cobalt blue ground color with lots of fancy gilding and two superb floral arrangements on a white ground. The bottom part is wood covred with a gold cloth and the sides are a thin gold colored metal with some fancy designs to it. The piece comes apart into three as I ahve shown in the pictures which is normal so you can attach blotter paper to it. The porcelain piece is marked underneath with the underglaze blue swords mark as shown. The entire blotter is 2.5 inches tall, 4.375 inches long and 2.25 inches wide. A really nice and rare piece! It displays perfectly with two knicks to the underside corners. They were gilded over as well as the udnerside rim to match it with the sides by someone I think and the blotter cloth might have been painted at the same time!? Please email me for more information or other pictures.
