Cobalt & Scenic Matchstriker

This is a rare match striker / matchbox holder made by Meissen in the 19th century - probably third quarter. It is handpainted with two cartouches - one with a superb floral arrangement and one with a nice scene of a couple surroudned by a landscape. The rest of the dish is a deep cobalt blue with lots of fancy gold trim. I have never seen this dish by Meissen painted this way just in blue onion or such so it was nice to find one in this style! The dish is in perfect condition with one small irregular spot under the blue color in the dish from the making. It is marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark (first quality) underneath as well as the usual incised and impressed marks. The sriker underplate is 0.75 inches tall and 4.75 inches in diameter. the center piece sticks up about 1.5 inches. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $999
