Damaged Woodcut Cup & Saucer

This is an early cup and saucer made by Meissen around 1740. Both are hand painted with flowers in the early and superb woodcut style and the flowers even match perfectly which is pretty rare. The saucer has a large floral arrangement in the center with four bugs around them and a nice brown trim to the edge. The porcelain has a nice white color that only the early pieces have. The cup has the same floral arrangement to the front as well as two bugs, brown trim to the edge and a nicely shaped handle with some puce trim to it. A gorgeous looking set! A small flower on the inside bottom. The set is not in the best condition with a chip to the edge of the saucer though it is still a superb piece to display and the handle of the cup has been reattached quite a while ago with a metal repair plus some of the blue color on the flowers has chipped off a common issue on this color. I actually have another set that matches this one that is in much better shape if anyone would like a cup and saucer in this design without the damage. I don't mind the damage on these extra early pieces since they look so superb - a nice starter set maybe for the beginner collector. The cup is 1.75 inches tall and 2.75 inches in diameter. The saucer is 0.875 inches tall and 4.75 inches in diameter. They are both marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark that are straight from around 1740 and an impressed number.
