Chinoiserie Cane Handle

This is a rare early cane / umbrella handle made by Meissen around 1725-30. It is hand painted with a superb Chinoiserie scene to the top as well as one to the front and another to the back of the side. Double under glaze blue line trim around the scene on the top, another blue line trim to the bottom edge and the area between the scenes was once filled with the famous Boettger luster color with gold trim over that. The gold trim has mostly worn off sadly and there is wear to the scenes and along the top edge. This piece was heavily used which was kind of the point. Someone had some serious money to be able to buy it and use it. Each scene has a hairline crack from the bottom opening up the side as shown. Not uncommon if it was attached to wood which expanded and contracted with the seasons. It's still a nice survivor as these pieces are extremely rare. And Chinoiserie pieces are hard to come by these days that's for sure! The handle is just over 1.75 inches tall and 1.25 inches in diameter. It is unmarked as far as I can tell but there is lots of old resin glue type residue inside so it might be hiding something under it. The quality and style easily give it away as a very early Meissen piece. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
