1740 Floral & Fruit Scnee Knife & Fork #5

This is a really nice knife and fork set with the porcelain handles made by Meissen in about 1735-40. The nicest I have seen in this style! The handles are large and superbly decorated with large floral arrangements as well as single flowers and lots of fruit / berries. One side is mainly flowers while the other has mainly fruit to it. The handles are thicker than most I have come across and perfect for me and my large hands. They have a bit of molded detail to them but the best part are definitely those fruit and flowers in the early woodcut style. The ends are porcelain knobs instead of the more often seen metal. The metal parts have been replaced sometime around the late 19th century with 800 Sterling Silver by the silversmith Alphonse Debain if I am correct. The pieces all have his mark of an A and a D with some sort of bird in between. Also a Minerva head I believe for the 800 silver mark. The blades and fork are gilded.for a little extra class. I think that is what they call vermeil but I don't know much about that. I stick to porcelain :) The pieces also have some sort of odd impressed mark on the opposite side of the minerva head mark. Not sure why. Either way - these are superb pieces. The two handles are in great condition with some very minor wear and a firing flaw to the knife handle covered up by the bottom pear. They display perfectly and are just amazing! The fork is 7.25 inches long of which 3.5 inches is the length of the visible porcelain handle. The knife is 8 inches long of which 3.5 inches is the visible porcelain handle. The handles are 1.125 inches wide and 0.875 inches thick at the end. The porcelain is not marked or shall we say visibly marked since it would be hidden by the ferrule which is normal but it is definitely made by Meissen during this period. No mistaking their style and quality! I have four more sets if anyone would like a few. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
