Ferner Cup & Saucer

This is an early cup and saucer made by Meissen around 1730-35 and then later over decorated by the famous shop of FJ Ferner around 1745. The set is handpainted with the underglaze blue Fels und Vogel Design by Meissen first and then the gilding and enamel colors were added by a Hausmaler of the shop of F.J. Ferner who was a Thuringian artist and is quite famous! He liked to do this with this particular design from Meissen. This is really a superb example of his work with the typical figures, flowers and buildings and there is even a bird. The cup and saucer are in great condition with shallow rim issue on the saucer which has gilding over it and might be original to the piece and a small spot on the outside rim of the cup that might be a chip that never came out of an unglazed area or something along those lines but it is minor and not a true chip not has it been restored by the look of it. There is also a bit of wear to the gilding which is common on these pieces! The cup is 1.75 inches tall and just over 3 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and has a diameter of 5.125 inches. The pieces are marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark underneath with a dot or two between the bottm (not the one from 1765! but the earlier version).
