Huge Bird w/ Bugs Figurine

This is a huge bird figurine made by Meissen during the 20th century. Not a piece you see often and in fact I could only find two other examples both in worse shape and much pricier so this here is practically a steal :) It is of a European blue roller (yes that is the bird's name!) perched upon a large tree trunk with caterpillars and a large bug on its as well as some leaves but my favorite part is that it has a branch on one side with a nest perched on it that has a little colorful blackbird type bird sitting in it. How cool is that!? The bird on top is nicely modeled as if ready to eat one of the worms. Hand painted superbly and very colorfully! Lots of leaves on branches and just on the trunk itself and some mushrooms growing out of one spot on the trunk. The caterpillars and the bug are superb as well. It's probably one of the nicest bird figurines I have seen by them! The piece is in great condition and again in better shape than the other two I could find. The leaves around the top are all perfect as are the bugs and the birds. The only damage is to some leaves around the bird's nest. The few that are damaged are mostly reglued so at least not totally lost. There are five damaged leaves. Again only some leaves are damaged and those are easy for a restorer to fix up perfectly. The rest is all in remarkable condition given the size of this figure! The piece is marked on the back near the base underneath the nest area with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark - first choice! Underneath there are the usual impressed / incised marks as shown and Germany in blue. The figurine is 15.125 inches tall, 8.5 inches wide and 7.5 inches deep. A huge figure in the world of porcelain! Very heavy as well! An elegant piece that would liven up any space! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
