Pre 1740 Kakiemon Chinese Butterfly Plate

This is a superb porcelain plate made by Meissen before 1740. It is hand painted plate really nicely with the famous Chinese Butterfly pattern in the early Kakiemon colors which are much nicer than the later ones. The paste also is much whiter and nicer than after 1750 as it has a creaminess to it that is hard to explain almost like soft paste. The rim has some nice Kakiemon style floral designs to it and a brown trim to the nicely shaped edge. A stunning looking piece! The plate is in great condition with a little wear and some minor firing faults which is to be expected when you get close to 300 years old. No chips, restorations, etc. It has the early moons to the paste when you shine a bright light through it that are more often associated with Chelsea porcelain but a good way to tell really early Meissen as well. The plate is 1.125 inches tall and 8.75 inches in diameter. Marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark as shown. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1749
