Kakiemon Sake Flask / Vase

This is a superb flask / bottle / vase made by Meissen in the 20th century. While it could be used perfectly as a vase I believe this was originally a Sake bottle meant for the Japanese market. Sake is an interesting drink that is neither beer nor wine but in a category all by itself and thus unique. I quite enjoy it once in a blue moon :) The piece has a really ncie shape to it and is hand painted with a superb Kakiemon design to the front and back including a bird in what looks to be bamboo with some typical and colorful Kakiemon flowers around the bottom. Two small Kakiemon flowers along the thin neck of the vase and a bit of gold trim. What really makes it look stunning is the the two sides instead of being white have a nice turquoise ground color to it that makes this whole piece look amazing! One does not find these often at all! The bottle is in great condition with a tiny bit of wear and it would ahve had a little lid to it which is missing. It is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark (first choice) underneath as well as a blue line and the usual impressed numbers as shown. The flask is 8.25 inches tall and 3 inches wide and deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
