Leg Shaped Needle Case

This is a rare hollow porcelain leg made for use as a needle case. It was made by Meissen either in the late 18th or early 19th century. The piece has a gold lid (I had it tested and it is not just gold plated!). The lid has a nice design on it which I have shown in the pictures. These legs are called Flohbein in German since a little flea was painted on them as a joke. This one is exquisitely handpainted and has nice detail all around. It is marked on the inside with the Meissen underglaze blue crossed swords. The little black spot almost underneath the top is the flea! The leg is a bit over 2.25 inches long. It is in perfect condition. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1499
