Mid 18thC Bird Scene Plate

This is a superb plate made by Meissen around 1740-50. It is handpainted with a great bird scene in the center including one bird sitting in a tree with another one sitting on the ground and both fighting over a nut or possibly sharing. The rim has a nice basket weave design to the paste and a gold trim to the edge. My favorite part are the five insects / bugs painted on the rim espeically the butterfly. The plate is in great condition with a bit of wear - the gold trim on the edge is worn and there is some stacking wear to the clear glaze and by the red bird's feet. Nothing that takes away from the piece! The plate is 1.25 inches tall and 9.25 inches in diameter. Marked underneath with the underglaze blue crossed swords as well as an impressed number 16. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
