Snake Handle Cup& Saucer

This is probably one of the most fun cups I have ever owned in all these years of collecting. It is a superb cup and saucer with a double snake handle and a nice saying made by Meissen in the first half of the 19th century. The cup sits on three feet that are gilded as is the entire interior of the (which I forgot to take a picture of). Nice intertwined pair of snakes form the handle, fancy blue and gold trim to the top and the saying : Zur Vergessenheit trueber und Erinnerung froher Stunden - to the forgetting of bad and remembrance of good times. The saucer has the same gold and blue trim and two birds in the center with the writing - An Deinem Geburtstage - on your birthday. I wish I would get a gift like this for my birthday!! Hint hint :) The set is amazing and quite unusual with all this detail and in superb condition - just some tiny fleabites to the toes on the feet of the cup which are superb minor and one jsut as minor fleabite on the side of one snake handle piece - more like a tiny spot where the gilding popped off. All in all as perfect as you can get it and so much fun! Both are marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark, a blue number 4 and the usual impressed numbers one finds on pieces of this period. The cup is 3.125 inches tall and 2.75 inches in diameter (plus the handle) and the saucer is 1.375 inches tall 5.125 inches in diameter with the two points sticking out a tiny bit more. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
