Superb Penitent Magdalene Plaque

This is a superb plaque made by Meissen in the mid to late 19th century. It is hand painted with a superb detailed scene of a semi nude lady with one breast exposed wearing a blue robe while lying on the ground reading a book that is leaning on a fallen over skull - a rendition of the penitent Magdalene after Correggio . I have owned and seen this scene on plques by many different makers but never by Meissen and the difference in quality amazes even me. Meissen is just that much better than anyone else. This scene is stunning both in detail and color! The plaque is in perfect condition and comes in a bronze or brass metal frame that is nice but not so fancy and large that it takes away from the plaque itself. The piece including the frame is 6.375 inches wide and 4.625 inches tall so a nice size! The porcelain piece itself is 6 inches by 4.375. It is marked with the blue crossed swords mark as well as the usual impressed numbers and letters though this is all pretty much hidden by layers of glue from an older framing job I assume. Truly a superb and elegant piece! Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $2999
