Nice Floral 1740 Cup & Saucer

This is an early koeppchen / teabowl shaped cup and saucer made by Meissen in about 1740. Both are hand painted with some top notch flowers in the woodcut style with the ones on the saucer especially nice and having their shadows under them. That style of painting is associated with the painter Klinger . The ones on the cup are really nicely done as well but do not ahve their shadows. The saucer has a three larger flowers with their stems and leaves while the cup has a larger flower to one side and two smaller ones to the other side plus an extra one on the bottom inside that is really well done. Both pieces also have a gold trim to the rim. The set is in superb condition with just the most minor of touches of wear to the gilding. The cup is just over 1.5 inches tall and 2.625 inches in diameter. The saucer is 0.875 inches tall and 4.75 inches in diameter. They are both marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords markwith the cup also having a puce painter's mark D. as shown and the saucer has a number 2 impressed on the footring inside. I was surprised to find an impressed number given the style of painting! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
