Purple Ground Harbor Scene Cup & Saucer

This is an amazing and very early purple (sometimes called Blackberry ) ground cup and saucer made by Meissen in about 1735. Both pieces are hand painted with superb harbor / merchant type scenes as well as this superb mottled purple ground color. The saucer has the entire well painted with a large scne including buildings, ships and people surrounded by a double red line trim and three amazing kakiemon style flowers along the rim. Gold trim to the edge and puce ground color to the underside rim with a gold line along the outside of the foot. The cup has a really nice scene to the front surrounded by a black nicely shaped edge trim, gold to the top edge and along the foot and some more on the superbly shaped handle. The scenes look to be painted by Christian Friedrich Herold one of the top painter's of this period. The set is stunning for sure! The set is in as good a condition as one could hope for with some very minor wear and some tiny scratches to the purple ground on the outside of the cup and a few spots of wear to the scene of the saucer. The only thing worth noting is that the purple ground on the two pieces is not an exact match but they are definitely a set and that color was notorious for being difficult to control and a small temperature change gave it a diffferent hue. The cup is 2.6275 inches tall and has a diameter of 2.75 inches. The saucer 1.125 inches tall and has a diameter of 5 inches. Each piece is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark from this period underneath as shown and both have a Bossierer's / Dreher's mark to them which only the very early pieces have! The cup has a double line mark along the foot (no it's not the number 11) for Grutner Junior and the saucer a star mark for Bergmann. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
