Puce Scenic Cup & Saucer #2

This is a second early cup and saucer made by Meissen in about 1740. Both the cup and saucer have a handpainted scene of lovers on them. The saucer has a couple taking a stroll through the park in the center while the cup has a lady with a kid approaching her on the front . There are also a bug and a smaller flower on the cup and the rims of the two have a superb fancy gold trim. Then there is a flower in the bottom inside of the cup. The bugs have the shadow painted with them that was only used for a few years during this time period. Johann Gottfried Klinger was the painter generally associated with this type of shadow painting I believe. The saucer also has two flowers and a bug painted on the underside as well as a gold trim. The flowers and bugs are painted in the woodcut style. This dates the set around 1740. Amazingly the set is in good condition with no wear to the gilding to speak off but there is a spot of wear on the scrne in the saucer well to the bottom left. And the handle of the cup is missing. When displayed it's not that noticable since the scene is in the front and that hides the handle area. The saucer is about 1 inch tall and 5.25 inches in diameter. The cup is 1.875 inch tall and 3.125 inches in diameter. Both pieces are marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark from this period as well as a gilders number 5.
