Blue Onion Rice Bowl

This is a very hard to find piece of blue onion - a rice bowl with its lid made by Meissen in the 20th century. Not something you come across ever really. During my research I found that the model dates to the 18th century but could only find one other example in blue onion from modern times. That explains why I could never find one when a friend of mine asked me to get one for him for his collection years ago. Both pieces are decorated with their famous Zwiebelmuster design in under glaze blue with the crossed swords in the bottom of the stalk. The bowl has the design all around the outside with a blue trim to the inside rim. The lid part has the typical design to the top and three smaller floral designs to the underside as shown. Both pieces are marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark in the stalk and the bowl also to the underside as shown with the usual impressed numbers, blue painter's mark, etc. There are three cut marks across the swords as shown. Likely because the bowl is slightly out of round so the lid does not stay in place nicely if the two are moved. A slight gap in two spots when the lid is in place. Not a big deal really and you won't find another one anytime soon. The bowl with the lid in place is 3.375 inches tall with a top diameter of 4.625 to 4.875 inches. Both are in perfect condition except for the slightly out of round issue. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
