Neat Octagonal Blue & White Plate

This is a very unsual plate / dish made by Meissen in the mid 19th century. It has an octagonal shape to it and is hand painted with an underglaze floral design to the cente highlighted with lots of gilding as well as some red highlights. The edge of the well has a nice under glaze blue design to it with gold highlights and there is a similar design around the edge of the dish. Gold trim to the edge as well. The rim has four floral designs to it matching the center design as well as four bugs / insects with gold highlights to them. A very unusual dish in both shape and design. A really nice looking piece! The piece is in great condition with some very minimal wear to the gilding that one has to expect after all those years. Only visible when you look for it and hold it at the right angle to the light. It displays perfectly! Marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark underneath as well as a blue painter's mark and some of the usual incised and impressed marks as shown. The plate is 1.125 inches tall and 8 inches wide with the diameter from corner to corner being 8.625 inches. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $399
