Saxon Armorial & Artillery Cup

This is an interesting militaria type cup made by Meissen in in the late 19th to early 20th century. A nice shape with the classicism period handle with some gilding to it and a simple gold trim along the very edge but the unusual part is the hand painted design to the front consisting of the armorial for the Saxon area of German where Meissen is based with a crown to the top and two crossed cannons behind it. Probably the design for the artillery regiment for this region. The Royal Saxon Artillery ( Königlich Sächsische Artillerie ) functioned as an independent branch of the Saxon military and was integrated into the Imperial German army in the early 20th century. A really neat and unusual cup. All it needs is a saucer and a white one with a simple gold trim would do which would not be hard to find. The cup is in perfect condition and is 2.5 inches tall (plus the handle sticks out another 0.875 inches) and has a diameter of 2.5 inches. The piece is marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords, first choice, as well as the usual impressed numbers. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $399
