Yellow Tiger Demitasse Cup & Saucer

This is a mocha or espresso coffee demitasse cup and saucer made by Meissen in the 19th century . Both pieces are hand painted with a really superb Kakiemon style pattern that has all the typical colors and looks superb! I have not seen this pattern very often but it is reminiscent of the yellow tiger ( Gelber Löwe ) pattern. Each piece has a lone yellow tiger to it with its tongue hanging out and a red and green banded hedge with Kakiemon style plants coming out of them plus a few colorful blossoms scattered about under the hedges. Each piece also has a gold trim just under the nicely shaped edge. The handle of the cup is superb as well. Really a stunning set! This size cup is not easy to find and I like them better than regular sized pieces since they take up less room in the cabinet. The set is in perfect great with a minor touch of wear and a rough spot on the inner edge of the suacer which looks to have been a bubble that popped during the last firing which also explains the set being denoted a second choice. The cup has a smal firing spot on the bottom inside. Both peices are marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark underneath (2nd quality) as well as the usual impressed marks one expects from pieces of this period as shown. The cup is just under 2 inches tall and 2.5 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1 inch tall and has a diameter of 4.375 inches. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
