Duvivier Decorated Ointment Pot

This is a very rare and amazing pot a pommade or pot a fard made by Mennecy in the 18th century. This lidded pot would generally have formed part of a service de toilette and would have contained cosmetics like lotion or some sort of ointment. What makes this a very special piece is that it was painted by the famous Fidelle Duvivier who is one of the best painter's out there. Very few Mennecy pieces are known that have been painted by him! This is the first and only piece of this shape of those few pieces. I had my suspicion about this when I bought it and it was confirmed by Charlotte Jacob-Hanson who is the expert on him. The bottom piece is hand painted with a really nice colorful bird standing on some grass on top of a rock base in a landscape surrounding. The lid has a similar but smaller scene to it. Blue trim to the edges and a nice fruit finial with its leaf on to fo the lid. Does not come much better than this! The enamel colors are amazing and it makes soft paste so much nicer than hard paste porcelain. The piece is marked underneath with the incised DV mark as shown. The main body with the lid in place is 4 inches tall including the finial with the lid having a diamete of 3.125 inches. The main body is slightly smaller in diameter. The set is in superb condition without any major issues. There is some crazing to the glaze in the thicker area of the lid as shown. As nice as they come! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
