Floral & Scenic Snuff Box

This is a rare and superb snuff box made by Mennecy in the mid 18th century. It is made of soft paste porcelain and thus has a creamy warm white color that porcelain nuts like us love so much. The box has a superb relief design to the paste all around that is meant to look like a basket. Lots of hand painted flowers scattered throughout with a large arrangement to the top and bottom and nice sterling silver mounts. The best part however is a very unusual scene to the inside of the lid - better than any I have seen before. It has two cherubs working in a blacksmith shop forging arrows I would presume. The very well done and detailed scene is surrounded by a nice black and red trim. The mounts are not marked as far as I can see. Now to the not so great part - the little piece is damaged - not to where it cannot be fixed but it'll take a bit of wrok. There is a crack across the lid top left corner and damage to the right side with a piece missing as shown. I think the scene on the lid more than makes up for that and it is definitely worth having brought back to perfection! The tabatiere is 1 inch tall, 2.625 inches wide and 2.125 inches deep.
