Mennecy Lid Silver Box #1

This is an interesting box! The lid was taken from a soft paste Mennecy snuff box that probably had the bottom damaged beyond repair. A really great idea! The porcelain top has a relief design to the paste on the outside and is hand painted with a typical floral arrangement while the underside of the lid has a smooth texture and is also painted with flowers. The rest of the box is Sterling silver and not too flimsy either. Simple lines to complement the porcelain perfectly. The two go perfectly together! The porcelain is not marked which is normal but there is not doubt it was made by Mennecy in the 18th century. The silver is marked both udnerneath as shown and along the edge of the lid. The marks show it was made by CJ Vander Ltd. from London in 1967. So even that part is vintage already. The piece is in great condition with some normal oxidation that just needs a quick polish if one wanted that. The porcelain has no issues either so it would make a superb pill or patch box! The piece is 1 inch tall, 2.875 inches wide and 2.25 inches deep. A nice size! Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
