Superb Large Biscuit Figure

This is a biscuit / unglazed type of porcelain figurine made by Mennecy in the 18th century. It is a figurine of Amor / Cupid with a lady - either Zephyr or Flora - not sure. I have not been able to find this exact model but the pieces with this base are attributed to Jean-Baptiste Mo . A nice sized piece that is larger than any I ahve owned by them before. Modeled suprbly with lots of detail and the unglazed nature meants the details are crisper than in the glazed versions. The cupid figure has one hand on the lady's side with his other holding a floral garland over her head. Her hand is around his neck holding up the other end of the garland and her other hand is in the front possibly having held something small at some point. A leaf is discreetly placed over his mid section and she is wearing a flowing dress and fancy sandals. Nice base with lots of detail to is and some flowers and greenery. The sides have swags of leafand berry garlands held up by bows. A really nice addition. A stunning looking figurine that is in amazing condition given the fragile nature of it. There is a small piece of the floral garland missing near her hand, some chips to the rest of the garland but looks great. Two fingers in her front hand are very slightly chipped. Not sure if she ever held anything in them but that is possible. A couple of chips to the loops of the bows around the base and the leaf garland as well but nothing that takes away from the piece. No restoration or major damage. Even his wings are intact which amazed me. As nice a piece as you will find! The figurine is marked underneath - twice - once it came out a little sloppy I guess so they did it again. It is the not often seen script DV monogram as shown. The piece is 10 inches tall and the base has a diameter of 5.25 inches. Quite heavy for its size! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
