Walter Bosse Farmer & Cow Figurine

This is a porcelain figurine made by Metzler & Ortloff in the late 1920's. Metzler & Ortloff was founded originally around 1873 and finally closed its doors in 1976. This figurine was designed during their best period by the famous Walter Bosse who worked for them from 1926 until 1930. He made about 200 different figures though most are dogs or such things and very few are larger pieces like the one I have here. This figurine is of a farmer trying to push his stubborn cow to the barn or something like that. The piece is quite typical of his work though unusually large. A piece that is well modeled and painted to just be fun to look at which is one of the reasons his work is so popular even today! It just makes you smile. The cow's face reminds me of Shaun the sheep (if you have kids and have never seen the show I highly recommend it!) The figurine is in perfect condition which always helps! The piece is marked underneath with the green MO mork under a crown in a circle as well as an impressed number 4855. The figurine is about 5.125 inches tall, 3.125 inches wide and 6 inches long.
