New Hall Scenic Teapot

This is a New Hall teapot with landscape panels, pattern 1053. A teapot needs a type of decoration that fits comfortably on its exterior. Here, the elongated shape offers a (somewhat) flat surface, allowing for different decorating options than simple circular shapes could provide. On this bone china teapot, dating to about 1815-20, the hand-colored landscape panels printed on both sides are very effective and appealing. The teapot stands a little over 6 inches high and shows few of the ravages of time, despite being nearly 200 years old. There is some very slight wear to the gilding and a crow’s foot hairline that is confined to the bottom. Overall excellent condition. This piece belongs to a good friend of mine.
