Couple Figurine

This is a great figurine of a couple made by Niderviller around 1800. Hard to find non single figure pieces by them so it was nice to find this one. The couple is dressed nicely while holding hands and standing on a typical base for this maker. The lady is holding a lamb in her right hand. I really like the figures by this maker and they often remind me of Hoechst pieces from Germany. The piece is solid and heavy for its size being made of one solid piece of porcelain. Niderviller unlike most makers did not use airholes during the firing process. The figure displays really nicely despite some issues. The gentleman was holding a staff in his right hand which has broken off in his hand and is missing a piece with the rest of the staff standing on the base. Not visible when displayed since it is in the back. A small sliver to the ruffles on her sleeve. The larger issue is that there used to be another animal standing on the base besides the gentleman which is now missing. All that is left is the four paws and the spot where it attached to his leg. Again not obvious when on display. Still a really nice example! As is the case with most of their figurines it is unmarked but there is a model number incised into the base No47 as shown. The figurine is 7.125 inches tall, 4 inches wide and 3.25 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
