Duck Cup & Saucer

This is a superb cup and saucer made by Niderviller around 1780. It is handpainted with an underglaze blue double line which is highlighted by a gold design made to look like waves. Between the two stripes is a handpainted fancy gold design of two ducks sitting on a nest with some foliage between them and two small flying ducks above that. Nice tiny flowers and a star design in the center of the saucer. The cup only has one duck sitting on a small overflowing water design. The set is marked with the gold script Nider mark short for Niderville which was sometimes used back then. There is also a script N incised underneath the saucer and the cup. The cup and saucer are in superb condition with a tiny flaw in the bottom of the handle that looks like a partial crack but it doesn't go through the back nor either side so from the making most likely. There is the tiniest amount of wear to the gilding! The cup is about 2.375 inches tall and 2.375 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.25 inches tall and 5.25 inches in diameter.
