Ottoman Empire Figural Incense Burner #1

This is a fun piece - a figural pastille or incense burner made by Niderviller around 1800. The one here is of a lady figurine - presumably the wife of the matching gentleman figure I also have on the site. The lady is dressed in an Turkish / Ottoman Empire sort of dress with a turban covering her head while holding an incense jar under her left arm with another one standing on a column next to her. From what I can see on the inside the smoke from the incense would come out of both of these pieces. The figure is standing on a rock work base with the gold trim around the edge. Quite typical for this maker. The incense part can be seen from the back where there is an opening under her dress with a little pin on the bottom to stick the pastille on though the pin is partially missing here. These types of burners were used around this time since house and places often smelled quite badly and the incense was used to cover it up a bit. It is rare to find a figural one and I have never seen one by this maker though now I own five of them after collecting them for a while. Really quite nice! The piece is in good condition with the item she is holding in her right hand damaged (no idea what it used to be -possibly a knife or sword), a small restoration to her turban in one spot where there was likely a flower or feather attached, the urn on top of the column has been restored - probably just the handles but it's hard to tell and I don't know if the smoke can still pass through the holes here and a little wear and tiny chips to the base edge gilding. She still displays very well! As is the case with most of their figurines the piece is unmarked. The figurine is 6.75 inches tall, 2.875 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep.
