Large Figurine

This is a large figurine made by Niderviller around 1800. It is of a couple sitting on top of a large rock base with the gentleman teaching the lady how to play the flute. She has a sheep by her feet and there is a goat in the back of the figure as well as a hat and a bagpipe. The lady is nicely dressed as is the gentleman. The detail of the modeling and handpainting is superb and as usual with Niderviller pieces it is very heavy being one solid piece of porcelain. The figure is in great condition with the ears of the sheep missing as well as one ear of the goat. There is also a tiny chip to the other goat's ear. I am unsure if the flute was made this short but it actually looks to be OK. So all in all pretty much perfect! The figurine is actually marked underneath which is quite uncommon with Niderviller pieces of this style. There is a script N and 94 incised underneath. The piece is 7.75 inches tall and the base has a diameter of 5.75 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $2499
