Limoges Cobalt Blue & Gold Cup & Saucer

This is a nice cup and saucer made in the Limoges area of France in the early to mid 19th century. The set is marked with an over glaze R mark I think stands for the factory of Ruaud whichw as founded in 1829 and lasted until 1879. He was the first in the Limoges area to decorate his wares with under glaze blue colors. The set is hand painted with a nice cobalt blue ground color with a really nice gold design over that. That color combination always looks stunning! Nice handle shape as well with a lion face inside the top part. The cup and saucer are in superb condition with just some very! minor wear to the gilding. There is a factory firing flaw to the inside of the cup as shown from the time it was made. The cup is 3.125 inches tall without the handle and 2.75 inches in diameter. The handle adds another 0.75 inches in height. The saucer is 1 inch tall with a diameter of 5 inches. The cup is marked with the letter R in red on the foot and the saucer in the center though it is hard to make out. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
