Ice Cup #1

This is a rare ice cup / tasse à glace / tasse à sorbet made by one of the Paris area makers in the 18th century. Likely one of the btter ones judging by the quality. Possibly Locre / La Courtille . The ice cup was used as a palate cleanser between the elaborate courses of the French dinner banquets of the period. So it was likely used by some very important people of the time. The piece is hand painted with a very nice colorful design all around including color and gilding. Typical handle shape of the period. One does not find this type of cup often at all and this one is decorated really nicely and in perfect condition with just a minor touch of wear and a small firing crack to the base center underneath which does not affect it at all. No saucer was used with the ice cups! The piece is not marked except for a blue number 14 underneath as shown. The underside is not glazed. The cup is 2.375 inches tall and 2.25 inches in diameter.
