Large & Superb Scenic Vase

This is a really nice empire period vase / urn made by one of the Paris area makers in the early 19th century. It is marked flan in red and an incisedl letter y which is typical for Paris pieces but that does not help with a maker or at least not me. The vase is superbly modeled with these really neat handles that include a head in the center that reminds me of a Roman soldier. The front of the vase has a superb scene to it of a couple in their house having a drink with lots of detail to it. There is a hat that hangs on the wall, a pitcher on a small table, a broom below that same table, some dishes and a candlestick on the floor, the door to the oputside that is open and off course the two people sitting in the center! A really nice scene that is surrounded by a tooled gilding frame. The rest of the main body has a nice blue ground to it with a superb typical Paris region design to the back that looks amazing! The top and base are fully gilded as are the handles. Tooled gilding around the round part of the base. It is a really nice example of the work this area produced plus larger than many one comes across and in better condition. What is unusual especially for a piece of this size is that the gold has almost no wear to it at all. There is a minor touch of wear to the gilding of the top inside and to one corner but that is it. No chips, repairs, etc. A truly stunning piece! It is 14 inches tall, about 8.5 inches from handle to handle and 5.25 inches deep so a really nice size.
