Potter Insect Dessert Plate

This is a nice plate made by one of the Paris region makers around 1800. To be more exact it came from a set were a few pieces were marked with the Rue de Crussol POTTER mark. Christopher Potter who was English started the factory in 1789 and it ran until the 19th century sometime around 1819. The duchess of Berry was a patron. Very well thought of by collectors and there was even a book written on this maker a few years back if I recall correctly. The plate is superbly hand painted with a large butterfly / moth in the center of the well, three small bugs along the outer part of the well, a nice gold trim to the edge of the well, three more bugs / insects along the rim and a thin and a thick gold band along the edge. A really nice looking plate and the bugs are very well painted! The piece is in superb condition with just a touch of wear and a large firing flaw to the underside as shown. The plate is unmarked underneath which is normal for them but a few of the pieces from this set were marked with his mark so there is no doubt as to the maker. The plate is 1.125 inches tall and 8.5 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
