Rathbone Teapot and Cup

This is a Mason’s or Rathbone miniature teapot and matching Cup. Dating to 1812-15, this miniature teapot is a very close match for the regular-sized teapots made by both Rathbone and Mason. That doesn’t guarantee that it came from either one, though, because similar teapot shapes were made by other firms. Miniature teapots in this shape, known as the “London style,” are hard to come by, and this one is not only rare but in great condition, other than a very tiny chip to the spout and several spots of missing color. It is decorated with a red-printed pattern of a Chinese garden scene, hand-colored in puce, blue, yellow and green. Tea was imported from the orient, and oriental designs have always been considered appropriate for the decoration of tea services. A matching cup from the set is included. This is a set owned by a good friend of mine. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
