Rauenstein Beer Stein / Tankard

This is a porcelain beer stein / tankard made by Rauenstein in the mid 19th century. The body and lid are hand painted with an underglaze blue design based on the strawflower design with birds plus red and gold highlights. The body also has some raised elements to it in the shape of columns and rings and the pewter lid mount has an amazing thumb holder to it in the shape of an eagle or griffin. A very nice piece - ready and waiting for its next beer :) The tankard is marked underneath with the RN under the crossed flags mark in under glaze blue as well as an incised number line and 6. It is in great condition with just some very minimal wear to the gold trim, a firing crack under one of the columns which off course does not go through to the inside and the finial of the lid was restored back on at some point - but that petwer thumb holder easily makes up for that :) The tankard with lid is 10.125 inches tall (including the pewter finial) and 4.5 inches in diameter - larger than the others I have owned over the years. Please email me for more information or photos.
