Huge Rauenstein Beer Stein / Tankard

This is a huge porcelain beer stein / tankard made by Rauenstein in the mid 19th century. The body and lid are hand painted with an under glaze blue strawflower design which looks stunning. Even after all these years it is still one of the top blue and white designs colelctors are looking for! . The body also has some raised elements to it in the shape of columns and rings and the pewter lid mount has an amazing thumb holder to it in the shape of an winged lady bust that looks like one of those figures on the front of old ships. A very nice piece - ready and waiting for its next beer :) It's the largest of this type I have come across! The tankard is marked underneath with the RN under the crossed flags mark in under glaze blue as well as some incised marks I can't make out and another blue mark as shown. It is in superb condition! The tankard with lid is 11.75 inches tall (including the finial) and just under 5.5 inches in diameter - larger than the others I have owned over the years. Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $699
