Rauenstein Huge Stein

This is a large porcelain beer stein / tankard made by Rauenstein in the mid 19th century. I have not seen one this size before but they do come in many different sizes and this must be the largest. The body and lid are hand painted with an under glaze blue design based on the strawflower design and also has some raised elements to it in the shape of columns holding arches, etc. and the pewter lid mount has an amazing thumb holder to it in the shape of a winged mermaid / siren or something along those lines. A very nice piece - ready and waiting for its next beer :) The tankard is marked underneath with the RN under the crossed flags mark in under glaze blue as well as a blue circle and some incised marks as shown. The piece is in superb condition with just some minor firing black dots from when it was made. It displays perfectly. The tankard with lid is 11.5 inches tall and 5.375 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or photos.
