Rosenthal Pierrot & Blackamoor Figurine

This is a very rare porcelain figurine made by Rosenthal in about 1920. I could actually not find another model anywhere so after doing some more research I found out some interesting facts: It was designed by Otto Tauschek in 1923, is model # 690 and titled "Zwei Seltsame" (Two Strange Ones). It's described as "Pierrot and Man with Turban" and illustrated only as a line drawing in the books by Emmy Niecol. No book has a picture of it so it is certainly a rare piece! The signature in gold "JMay", is of the painter Jakob May who was one of Rosenthal's finest painters. The figurine is of a pierrot standing by some kind of tree with a blackamoor in front of him under a palm tree. A rare combination and really nice with the way the base was done. A pleasure to view from all sides! The figurine is superbly modeled and handpainted and a real treat. There is an incised signature on top of the base between the two figures but I cannot make it out. Amazing even with all the fragile detail this figurine is in perfect condition! It is marked underneath with the green Rosenthal mark with Selb-Bavaria underneath as shown in the pictures and a painters signature that seems to be J. May . The figurine is about 11.25 inches tall, 10 inches wide and 5.5 inches deep. Please email me for more information or photos.
