Well Marked Scenic Plate

This is a very rare treat - a porcelain scenic or picture plate made by Royal Vienna in the late 18th century. Yes this is an authentic piece and not one of the thousands of copies one sees all the time. These real pieces are extremely rare and much nicer than the later copies. The center has a mythological type scene in it titled Thetis ueberreicht dem Archilles die Waffen (Thetis gives Achilles the weapons). Thetis is the goddess of water and Achilles is her son. A top notch scene with Thetis being half nude with a cloth just across her mid section but her breasts exposed, Archilles is being given a shield by two cherubs with his armor and swords hanging on the tree behind them and an older mostly nude gentleman lying on the ground with a dog behind him. Some nice scenery all around and the tupical rim design including pink and cobalt blue ground color with some nice gold designs on top much of which is raised. This is one the nicest and best quality scenes I ahve seen on a plate by them. The plate is in superb condition with a tiny bit of wear to the gilding in two or three minor spots. Some use marks but nothing that impacts the piece and it displays perfectly! The plate is just over 9.5 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches tall. It is marked with the underglaze blue shield mark underneath as well as two impressed numbers as shown, a painter's mark 62. and another 86. plus the title of the scene as I ahve already mentioned in black.
