Rue de Crussol Potter Plate #1

This is really nice plate made by Rue de Crussol of the Paris region in the late 18th century. The Englishman Christopher Potter started the factory in 1789 and it ran until the 19th century sometime around 1819. So not very long. Here we have an unusually well dated example which I have not seen before. It dates the piece to the 27th of May 1793. So a fairly early piece for this maker! The duchess of Berry was a patron of this maker which helped it get off the ground. Very well thought of by collectors and there was even a book written on this maker a few years back if I recall correctly. The plate is superbly hand painted with avery fancy quite modern looking design around the rim. The center has a pink rose to it and there are lots of tiny gold leaves filling in the rest of the well. A really facny looking plate! The piece is in superb condition with just a touch of wear to the gold along the outer edge and the black hat of one of the firework looking things has the black paint looking grey. Seems to be a firing issue rather than paint chipping or wear. The plate is marked underneath with the under glaze B over POTTER over 5 as well as an incised letter D and the black markings No 17 F.. 27 may 1793. Maybe it was a design example specimen never meant to be sold. Like I said I ahve not seen one with this exact a date mark. The plate is 1.25 inches tall and 9.625 inches in diameter. A nice size and a really nice looking example! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
