Schney Cup & Saucer

This is a cup and saucer made by Schney around 1800. Schney was founded in 1781 and was in existence for a long time until about 1928. This set was made in the late 18th to early 19th century and is handpainted with a scene very typical for Thuringia porcelain makers like Gotha. The ruin type scenes are painted all in brown tones and have a plaque on each with the saying: Unser Herz ist die Quelle (on the cup) as well as userer Zufriedenheit (on the saucer) which combined means Our heart is the source of our satisfaction. Nice gold trim as well! The set is in great condition with a small chip to the underside of the saucer rim that can't be seen from above and a little gold wear. Both pieces are marked underneath with the script S mark in underglaze blue as well as an incised 4 or triangle type mark and a black number 40. The cup is 2.375 inches tall plus the handle which makes it about 3 inches tall and 2.75 inches in diameter. The saucer measures 1 inch tall and 5.5 inches in diameter.
