Ben Franklin Bust

This is a superb biscuit figural bust of the famous Benjamin Franklin made by Sevres in the early 20th century. I cannot make out the date marks clearly but the green mark unde the base was used from 1900 on and I think the impresed mark on his back states 1920. Eitehr way a superb bust and very unusual being an American and having been made by a French maker. Franklin is very well respected in France having lived there from 1776 until 1785 and being one of America's first diplomats! Franklin was a writer, scientist, inventor and many other things and was embraced by the French aristocrats! The bust is made of unglazed bisque or biscuit porcelain and is extremely well modeled with lots of superb details. A stunning piece and the blue ground colored glazed base with the gold trim only brings it out even more. Just in case on didn't know who he was his name is on the front of the base of the bust portion :) The piece is in superb condition with a couple of small stains common to these unglazed pieces and a ground down firing flaw on top of his right shoulder from when it was made. The piece displays perfectly! The bust is marked on the back with an impressed mark as shown and the underside base has the green triangular Sevres mark as well as the usual incised numbers and letters as shown. The entire piece is 9.125 inches tall, about 5.375 inches wide and 3.75 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
