Léon Gambetta Bust

This is a nice biscuit figural bust of Léon Gambetta made by Sevres in 1910. He was a French lawyer as well as the republican politician who proclaimed the French Third Republic in 1870..The bust is made of unglazed bisque or biscuit porcelain. It is one piece with that nice base that is also unglazed. The bust is nicely modeled with lots of superb details to it. Sevres made a few different busts and they are all superb. This example here looks very elegant! The figurine is in perfect condition with a few minor firing flaws normal to these larger unglazed peices. The bust is marked on the back by his shoulders with the impressed rectangular Sevres mark, as well as impressed NL-93-10 as shown. The side of the base has the name of the modeller incised into it - A. Falguiere for Alexandre Falguière . The entire figure is 9.75 inches tall, about 5 inches wide and 5 inches deep.
