Blue Ground & Scenic Sugar Dish

This is a really nice sugar dish made by Sevres around 1773 (the teapot of the set has the date mark as well as artist marks). The dish is made of soft paste porcelain and has that very nice creamy white paste that collectors love so much. The piece is hand painted with two superb scenes en grisaille (in tones of grey / black) of cherubs / angels in different poses. Each scenes is surrounded by a gold band, then a leaf and berry garland and another gold trim around that that is tooled nicely. The space between the scenes has an amazing deep cobalt blue ground color and a really nice thick gold trim around the top as well as gilding to the top and bottom edge. The piece is in superb condition with a gilded over small chip to the bottom edge from when it was made. It likely had a lid at some point which is now missing but looks fine without it. A couple of scratches to the clear glaze on the inside from use normal on softpaste pieces! The pot is marked with the interlaced double L mark in blue underneath as shown. No artist marks on this piece but the one artist mark of the teapot from this set is for Fountaine (J.) who was a painter at the factory from 1752 until 1807. The other artist mark on the tea pot I could not figure out. Typical hole to the foot ring from their firing process. The piece is just under 2.5 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter.
