Interesting Plate

This is an interesting plate made by Sevres in 1921. Quite different from what one usually sees byt them! It comes from a series of plates with different designs done in a limited edition this one here being number 16 of 20. It is hand painted with a scene to the front signed Lieut. Jean Droit. The central scene has a gentleman with a large ladle on his belt, a pipe in his pocket and a cigarette in his hand. There is a magpie bird and some carrots on the ground and in the background is a chef pushing a food cart. The words are Le bon Tuyau which means a hot tip for something I believe. The rim is decorated with all sorts of strange messages on a ribbon iwht ducks and a simple boat in between. The messages are "we will go to rest", "there are 200,000 Cossacks in Nancy", " the turpin thing", "the division will be raised", "they no longer have to peck", "permissions will be restored" . Some of these might have meaning beyond what I can figure out or they might just be some fun nonsense. Not sure what this series was made for but it is certainly interesting and fun and the plate looks great! The plate is in perfect condition and marked underneath as shown with the green Sevres mark S 1921 DA and the Dore a Sevres gilder's mark in red for 1921. There are also the usual incised marks as well as a painter's mark and the limited edition mark in red as shown. The plate is 1.25 inches tall and 9.75 inches in diameter.
