Tortoise Shell Ground Cup & Saucer #1

This is a rare cup and saucer made by Sevres in the early 19th century- 1811 to be exact. The set is decorated with the are tortoise / turtle ground color known as écaille de tortue or fond écaille is a mottled brown ground color on which they painted a superb gold trim of palm leaves and grapes on a vine. The combination looks stunning and it is very hard to find! The set is made of hard paste porcelain not their earlier soft paste. The cup is marked underneath with the red script Sevres mark with an 11 under it for 1811 as well as two blue dots near the foot ring and their usual incised marks as shown. The saucer is not marked except for their incised marks. The cup and saucer are in great condition with just a touch of wear to the gilding and a small chip to msotly the underside edge of the saucer. Only a tiny bit is visible from the top they display perfectly! The cup is just under 2.5 inches tall and 2.5 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 5.25 inches in diameter.
