Tray

This is a small tray made by Sevres in the 18th century or to be more exact in about 1760. It is handpainted with a superb puce camieu scene in the center of three angels or cupids sitting in the clouds with a bird cage in the center and a bird. The plate is in great condition with little wear from us which is normal on softpaste porcelain and really not bad at all. Some small black firing spots mostly on the rim. That is seen as evidence of refiring even though I don't see any other evidence. It is marked underneath with the interlaced blue L mark with the H in the center and an am artist mark as well as a puce artist mark which I cannot make out. The am artist mark is likely for either Pierre Louis Phillipe Armand or l'aine Armand. Both were painters of the old masters after 1746 at Sevres. It is made of softpaste porcelain and has the hole for hanging in the kiln near the rim. The piece is 11.75 inches wide, 9 inches deep and 0.875 inches tall.
