Spode Imari Teapot

This is a Splendid Spode Imari Oval Teapot. Circa 1800. This is a striking design, pattern 819, utilizing the traditional colors of Japanese Imari ceramics, iron red and cobalt blue, and adding drama to them with an English flair for extravagant gilding. Note that the pattern repeats in an unusual way, so that each side seems to have a different design. In fact, it’s the same design but shifted sideways. The decoration is in near perfect condition,, including the gilding. Perhaps the repaired and near-invisible hairline in the side kept it from being used at all, and it has simply sat on the shelf looking beautiful since it was made at the beginning of the 19th century. This is a piece owned by a good friend of mine. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $975
